He painted exclusively three-dimensional figures and his sculptures were no different! From a huge, plump Cat almost seven meters long, located in the El Raval district of Barcelona, to an exaggerated Horse in Pietrasanta, a Tuscan municipality that the artist has frequently visited for many years.
We are naturally talking about the genius Fernando Botero, who died today, September 15, 2023, at the age of 91, to whom we want to pay tribute with this selection of very large sculptures scattered throughout the world.
Let’s start with the “Gato”, a bronze sculpture that eventually became a very popular tourist attraction and was acquired by the city of Barcelona in 1987.
He did not find a permanent home until 2003, when he was settled on the Rambla del Raval, where he still seems to feel especially at home!

Equally exaggerated is “The Bird”, a huge bronze bird located on Raffles Place in Singapore, where it was installed in 1990. It symbolizes the joy of life and the power of optimism. In Tuscany, we have the honor of hosting a horse more than 3 meters tall and weighing one and a half tons: we are talking about the “Horse with a Bridle”, exhibited in the central square of Pietrasanta.
