Get ready for Flu Shot Friday

Local 10 and Walgreens are teaming up again Friday to give out flu shots. This year’s event will be held on Friday, September 15th.

Local 10 health expert Kristi Krueger will head to a select Walgreens store to get a flu shot during the 9 a.m. newscast

The flu shot, usually given in the arm, activates the immune system and prepares it for future infections. Protection begins approximately 2 weeks after injection. Ahead of flu season, Walgreens ordered many flu shots and coupons for South Florida.

During our event, uninsured and underinsured individuals will receive flu shot coupons at Walgreens stores, allowing them to receive a free flu shot. For people with health insurance, this is also the best time to get vaccinated.

The flu shot coupons are donated by Walgreens and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of a national program to provide flu shots to those who do not have health insurance or cannot afford to pay for them.

Each coupon is good for one flu shot at any Walgreens pharmacy and is subject to coupon terms and conditions. You must be 18 years or older to get a flu shot at a Walgreens store.

“For more than a decade, Walgreens pharmacists have been a trusted and easy-to-use community resource for flu and other vaccines,” said Georgia Lehoczky, Walgreens Regional Health Director. “Thank you WPLG Local 10 for helping us close the health care gap in the communities we serve. I encourage everyone to get their annual flu shot. Let’s win together and protect ourselves and those around us.”

The event is held for one day only. No appointment required. All Walgreens stores are participating in the event and will be administering flu shots during regular store hours.
