After weeks of exhaustive tests, doctors still couldn’t determine the exact cause of his paralysis. The most reasonable theory they offered was inflammation of the facial nerve caused by infection, but even this explanation was unsatisfactory. “It’s so shocking: the universe decided to freeze half of my face,” Caoyimhe lamented.
Despite facing unimaginable challenges, Caoyimhe remains hopeful. Despite having difficulty eating, drinking and speaking, he refused to succumb to the mysterious disease. “At first I thought, ‘Okay, great. It’ll be over in a few days.’ And then two weeks went by and I still wasn’t getting better, and it was almost like I had to keep learning how to cope with having it,” she determined shared.
His life is now filled with a range of complications, from difficulty pronouncing certain words to the loss of taste bud sensitivity on half of his tongue. The paralysis not only affected his appearance but also his ability to enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as enjoying a cup of coffee in public. “Even half of my tongue is paralyzed. Because half of my tongue is paralyzed, my taste buds have also lost half of their function.” He explained helplessly.
