Patrons of a Monmouth County restaurant are being urged to get vaccinated against hepatitis A.
The Monmouth County Health Department issued a public notification that an employee at Cardinal Provisions in Asbury Park tested positive for hepatitis A earlier this month.
Cardinal Provisions is a brunch restaurant located at 513 Bangs Avenue in Asbury Park.

“The investigation found that the employee worked while contagious between September 7th and 10th, 12th, 14th, 17th, 19th and 21st,” the health department said in a news release.
If you were in a restaurant or ate any food from a restaurant, health officials strongly recommend that you consider getting the hepatitis A vaccine within two weeks of possible exposure.
Health inspectors began investigating after being notified by a health care provider about the infected employee. They found no evidence of food safety violations.

According to the health department: Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver that can cause loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, fever, stomach pain, brown urine and light-colored stools. The skin or eyes may turn yellow.
People can become sick for up to seven weeks after being exposed to the virus.

The owner of Cardinal Provisions has temporarily closed the restaurant while all employees are vaccinated.
