Logroño (EFE) – On Wednesday, Health Minister María Martín called on Rioja families with children between 6 months and 5 years old to get them vaccinated against influenza.
Martin spoke about this during a visit to the Medical Office of Vila Medianá de Iregua, insisting that “prevention is the most important thing to take care of your health”.
He explained that for the first time, “this vaccine is being administered to healthy children in this age group, which is an innovation because previously only groups of children with underlying medical conditions were vaccinated,” the ministry said in a statement Report in report.
The key to avoiding income
He detailed that influenza is not a minor illness and vaccinating children is key to avoiding complications such as hospitalization.
He added that influenza affects 20 to 40 percent of the child population, depending on the extent of the epidemic that year, with 5 percent of cases ending in hospitalization due to severity.
On October 2, La Rioja started a combined influenza and Covid-19 vaccination campaign in nursing homes.
Likewise, the campaign continues during the week of October 9 among senior citizens aged over 85 years and among health and social health professionals of the Rioja Health Service. Starting from last Monday (16th), the remaining target groups began to be vaccinated.
