PONTIAC, Mich. — Oakland County officials are recommending precautions after hepatitis A cases were reported at the Pine Knob Music Theater in recent weeks.
We are told those who dined at the Ivy Lounge between August 26th and September 26th. 8. Be alert to symptoms. They include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dark urine, vomiting, and yellowing of the skin/eyes.
In rare cases, the infection can lead to liver failure, officials said.
People who have not been vaccinated against hepatitis A are urged to get vaccinated immediately.
“The risk of transmission in this particular situation is low,” said medical director Dr. Russell Faust. “Get vaccinated if you haven’t already. Illness can be prevented if vaccinated within 14 days of exposure.”
If you have symptoms or have been exposed to hepatitis A, contact your doctor.
Minimize your risk of contracting hepatitis by taking the following precautions:
- Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds.
- If a household member is showing symptoms, clean all surfaces, especially toilets, sinks, faucet handles and door handles.
- Wait at least three days after symptoms have passed before preparing food.
- Seek hepatitis A vaccination.
