The plot of the “House of Gucci”
Milan, 1978. Despite the protests of his sick and abusive father Rodolfo Gucci (Jeremy Irons), charming heir and law student Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) embarks on a passionate affair with young secretary Patricia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). Old Gucci considers her a careerist who only wants power and family money. She doesn’t want her son, her heir, to marry her.
But Maurizio doesn’t listen to him. As the young couple builds a future together, Patricia finds an unexpected ally in the Gucci family in her shrewd uncle Aldo (Al Pacino), Rodolfo’s brother. Gradually, Patricia manages to break into the Gucci fashion empire. But at this moment something changes. Anyone who is not with Patricia is against her. Even if his last name is Gucci.

True, the father of the groom resisted the story of Patricia and Maurizio in every possible way. And it’s true that no one from the Gucci family showed up at the wedding. Paolo Gucci (Jared Leto) was the real black sheep of the family, as the film so well portrays. Which, however, does not delve into the real reason for the family’s dysfunction. This is because Rodolfo had only one heir, while Aldo had three.
The one that is false
However, it is not true that the events take place in 1978, but 8 years earlier. It is not true that the couple had only one daughter. Alessandra was born in 1976, and Allegra in 1981. Just as it is completely untrue that Paola Franchi (Camilla Cottin) is the reason for the breakdown of Maurizio and Patricia’s marriage. When they met in St. Moritz in 1990, divorce proceedings had already begun. The separation dates back to 1985.

The character of Pina Auriemma
Some changes are minimal. In the film, Patricia calls a television fortune teller named Pina Auriemma (Salma Hayek), who gives her occasional advice and then helps her arrange Maurizio’s murder in 1995. In fact, Pina met Patricia well and became “the socialite’s closest friend and confidant,” says Forden. “He felt like he could trust her and made her laugh.” Auriemma played tarot cards for fun. “But at the same time, in the world of Milanese fashion they often turned to psychics and sorcerers. Patricia regularly asked for spiritual advice and spells from other people, although not necessarily from Pina. Maurizio also had a psychic that he consulted, so it was something that was done under those conditions.”
After the death of Maurizio Gucci
Although the film is almost three hours long, it glosses over most of the consequences of Maurizio’s death. There is a moment that actually happened. When Patricia enters the apartment where the ex-couple lived and orders Paola to leave. In fact, less than 24 hours after Maurizio was killed, “she showed up with her daughters and said, ‘I’m not here as a wife, I’m here as a mother,'” Forden continues. “She came in and kicked Paola out without much ceremony.”
Patrizia Reggiani was arrested as the instigator of the murder of her ex-husband almost two years later.
