Sydney Sweeney’s work in Euphoria has helped her establish herself as a truly exceptional actress. Despite the success of the HBO series, the actress had made a name for herself long before, starting with massively successful projects like The Handmaid’s Tale. Her work as Cassie Howard, however, will certainly go down as one of her most well-recognized roles.
Unfortunately, the character that she plays in the series can easily be stereotyped into the category of the ‘bombshell’ female character. Sweeney, however, was able to get out of this type-cast, unlike another famous actress, Scarlett Johansson, who confessed to being groomed into this category.

Sydney Sweeney Was Stuck In Cassie’s Image
Cassie Howard can easily set a number of stereotypes. She is a blonde, overly-sexualized high school teenager, who is unfaithful to her best friend and gets into a relationship with her boyfriend. Many actresses who have played these characters have gone on to only play characters like this. Sydney Sweeney could very easily become the latest victim of the bombshell-character typecast.
The actress did an interview with Variety where she spoke on the subject.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to change it, but I’m glad that people are like, ‘Wow, she can act,’” she says. For every project since Euphoria, “I have had to prove people wrong.”
She revealed that she understands that she could’ve easily fallen into this trap. However, she did not let this happen to the roles that she chose after her work in Euphoria. She revealed that through projects like The White Lotus and Reality she was able to establish herself as not only an actress with pretty looks but also an individual who is exceptionally good at what she does, which is acting.

It Wasn’t So Easy For Scarlett Johansson
Sydney Sweeney was not the first actress to escape this narrative. Margot Robbie is the perfect example of this, with the actress’s breakout role being in The Wolf of Wall Street, where she played a similar character. However, she went on to showcase, just how good she is, as an actress, going on to play in projects like I, Tonya, Babylon and Amsterdam. Not everyone, unfortunately, had it this easy.
Scarlett Johansson is the perfect example. The actress has confessed in the past to Harpers Bazaarthat when she started off in this industry, she was in a way groomed to play characters that can be referred to as bombshells.
“I was kind of being groomed, in a way, to be this what you call a bombshell type of actor.” When it came to “playing the other woman and the object of desire,” she felt “cornered in this place, like I couldn’t get out of it.”
She added that she was constantly under pressure to play the roles that were perceived as the object of desire in any scene. But now she has established herself as one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood.
