He became a star thanks to the character Filippo “or Chiatillo” (father’s son), a wealthy young Milanese who ended up in a juvenile prison due to the tragic death of a friend, in Sea, a Rai2 phenomenon series that has also depopulated on Raiplay and Netflix, and thus the world. But the career of Nicolas Maupas23 years old, raised in Lombardy, Italian mother, French father, hailing from afar: before Mare fuori exploded, the actor was already known for Under the Amalfi Sun and series such as Naked and The Professor, in which he plays the son of Alessandro Gassman (the second season will air on Rai1 after the summer).
And now it won’t stop. An elegant beauty and multifaceted talent, shaped by long studies, Maupas is currently filming the blockbuster series Montecristo’s Paradise as protagonist Edmond Dantès (but, kept in the strictest confidence, he does not confirm), then in October he will see in Rai2 fiction. We are the legend of a group of teenagers with superpowers. Meanwhile, from August 24 he will be in the cinema: he is one of the main characters of La bella Estate, a delicate film by Laura Luchetti based on the novel of the same name by Cesare Pavese. In this story of transformation, discovery and growth, Nicola plays Severino, the guard brother of protagonist Ile Yar Vianello, who landed with her in the city from the countryside (the cast also includes Virgo Cassel, daughter of Monica Bellucci).

How does he cope with his huge popularity?
“With great joy. There is a little stress, but positive moments prevail: travel, dating.
Why do you think “Mare fuori” is so successful all over the world?
“Perhaps because the series speaks a language understandable to young people who recognize themselves in the characters. He talks about a juvenile prison, about a little-told reality through a simple real-life story.”
What did it give you besides visibility?
“It reinforced my sense of responsibility. It made me realize that to do a good job it is not enough to learn the script, you need to ask yourself the right questions: what would you do in such a situation, just as an example. An actor should always explore.”
And what was the experience of filming “Beautiful Summer”?
“It gave me the opportunity to work in a special environment where I felt like a real brother to Yle Yara Vianello. Compared to Pavese’s novel, the director made my character much less rude and tough, but on the contrary, endowed with subtle features.
Are you worried that big TV success might limit your film career?
“What I’ve learned from TV shows, which is good acting training, will definitely help me shoot for the big screen.”
Why did he become an actor?
“I followed the call, cinema is a calling. I’ve always loved it because it tells stories and people without judging them.”
What did you learn from Gassman?
“He conveyed great passion to everyone. It made me realize that our work could bring the character to life. On the set, he talked to us about philosophy, he turned into a real professor.”
How are you younger than 30 different from older actors?
“Our work is not limited to the film set, there is also a public image.”
Tell us about Instagram where he has a million followers?
“Yes. On social media, it’s important to strike a balance between the public and private dimensions. And if you have a lot of followers, then you need to think carefully before publishing a post.”
How do you feel in French?
“Perhaps in that I speak in a low voice, but I like to consider myself Italian and French to the same extent.”
Can being very beautiful like you be a hindrance to your work, can it create limitations?
“Let’s say because of my young, clean face, I had very few auditions for villains.”
Would you like to play them?
“The more characters I create, the better.”
What is your next goal, your dream?
“I would love to make a movie on the road one day. However, it would be a dramatic story.”
If something goes wrong, do you have a plan B?
“No! Cinema is my life. Come to think of it, since I love to cook, I could take up catering. But the problem doesn’t really arise right now. I have a full agenda for the next 18 months.”
