Lady Gaga photo Harley Quinn. Filming of the second chapter of Joker started last December and the title will be Joker: Folie à deux. Filming of Todd Philips’ sequel is taking place in New York and so the first photos stolen from the set have appeared on the web. In reality, Philips himself a few months ago had already made public a first official shot of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck and of Lady Gaga in those of Harley Quinn. Will the singer manage not to regret Margot Robbie, who wore those clothes in “Suicide Squad”, “Birds of Prey” and “The Suicide Squad”?

In the photo in question we see the protagonist showing obvious signs of bruises and violence, while someone is shaving him. One could think of the violence suffered by his Arthur Fleck during his stay in Arkham Asylum, the psychiatric hospital in the city of Gotham City in which he had been locked up at the end of the first feature film of 2019. The caption written by Phillips as a copy of the shot reads: “Day 1. Our boy“, accompanied by the hashtag #joker.

Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures, DC Studios, Bron Creative and Joint Effort, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film is based on the Joker and other characters appearing in DC Comics publications. The cast of the film includes Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz reprising their roles of Arthur Fleck/Joker and Sophie Dumond respectively from the first film, alongside Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.

An official synopsis is not yet available, however it has been announced that ‘Joker 2’ will be a musical primarily set at Arkham Asylum and will focus on the Joker’s time in the iconic mental hospital criminal.

The 2019 Joker movie was supposed to be a standalone, so no sequel, but the Warner Bros. intended to launch DC Black, a line of DC Comics-based films unrelated to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) franchise. While the director had always declared in the same year that he was interested in making a second film.

In October 2019, Phoenix had told reporter Peter Travers that he wanted to reprise the role of Arthur, which centered on Travers’ request to Phoenix: “I can’t stop thinking about it… if there is something else what we can do with Joker that might be interesting. It’s nothing I really wanted to do before working on this film. I don’t know if there is (other to do)… Because it seemed endless, the possibilities of where we can go with the character“.

Joker grossed $335 million in North America and $739 million worldwide, for a total of $1.074 billion, making it the R-rated film with the best grossing ever. In Italy, grossing €6.2 million, the film established the third best opening weekend of the year after Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King. Joker: Folie à Deux will be released in theaters in the United States on October 4, 2024 and should arrive in Italian cinemas near that date.
