Infinity War, Mark Ruffalo defends the controversial change made to a scene with the Hulk

Avengers: Infinity War, Mark Ruffalo defends the controversial change made to a specific scene with the Hulk.

As many of you know, originally in Avengers: Infinity War the Marvel Studios they predicted the return of Hulk in the final battle with a scene where the Goliath Green would come out of Hulkbusters to face Cull Obsidian turning into Smart Hulkresult of the compromise between Bruce Banner and his alter ego. This version of the sequence was later scrapped and the production chose to reserve the introduction of the Intelligent Hulk for Avengers: Endgame.

During his last appearance at theEmerald City Comic-Con (via MCU Direct), Mark Ruffalo himself talked about the changes made to this specific sequence of the blockbuster. Despite this moment being in the original script and being shot over four times, the actor explained why the Russo brothers decided to turn the tide of battle during filming:

“It was so much fun, and so challenging and always amazing. When we were making (Avengers) Infinity War, the Hulk was slated to come out of the Hulkbuster at the end. I don’t know if you knew. AND we shot that scene. We turned it four times but it wasn’t working. And then, we figured out that — well, the Russo brothers figured out — that we couldn’t have the Hulk save the day again (after Thor: Ragnarok). And we had to let Banner lose without the Hulk.”

“AND this was the kind of thing that was in the script a certain way for two years, but then when it came time to shoot we decided it would be better for the story if the Hulk didn’t show upand Banner has to somehow try to befriend him and get him back. But that’s how these things have evolved, and so they’re always surprising in new ways, even when you cut yourself to the very last moment, and you’re shooting the end of the film, and you keep coming back.”

I mean, they shot that scene at least five times over the course of a year. With me in the Hulkbuster. Well yes, we were always working to improve it. And that’s one of the differences (between Marvel) and any other movie that they make, which is that we’re always trying to do things as we go along.. There are so many characters and so many stories that you try to weave together. AND what Marvel does beautifully is look for the one that will have the biggest impact for you.”

The scene, even before the directors decided to change the scene, was anticipated by the official merchandise of the film.
