The Weeknd has officially become the most popular artist in the world according to the Guinness World Record. In fact, the Canadian has been certified by the association that deals with records in two categories.
The author has obtained two recognitions, at only 33 years old:
- Most monthly listeners on Spotify: 111.4 million (as of March 20, 2023)
- First artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify
To make a comparison and understand the artist’s popularity, The Weeknd currently has almost 30 million more monthly listeners than Miley Cyrus (82.4 million) who recently returned to the radio with her new album.
In the ranking, the artist we will see in Italy next summer is also firmly ahead of Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million ) and Ed Sheeran (77.5 million).
Contributing to this data growth was the remix of “Die For You” featuring Ariana Grande, which immediately went viral on TikTok and entered the Billboard Hot 100.
The Weeknd also contributed to the soundtrack of Avatar 2, James Cameron’s colossal that debuted in theaters last December.
