After running dry-mouthed at the 2023 Oscars, two of last year’s most celebrated films – The Batman And Top Gun: Maverick – took a little revenge during the new edition of Critics Choice Super Awardsthe US critics awards dedicated to genre cinema.
The Batman won the award for best superhero film, with Colin Farrell winning Best Actor in a Superhero Movie. Angela Bassett, who was surpassed by Jamie Lee Curtis at the Oscars for Everything Everywhere All at onceshe made up for it at the Critics Choice Super Awards by winning the award for best actress in a superhero film for his interpretation in Black Panther: Wakanda Forestr, while Tatiana Maslany of She-Hulk she took home the statuette for best actress in a superhero TV series. In addition, Top Gun Maverick was voted best action film of the year – the main award of the competition – with Tom Cruise who won the award for best actor in an action movie.
Finally, it should be noted the victory of Everything Everywhere all at once on Avatar: The Way of Water in the category of the best science fiction film (the film also won in the categories of actors in a science fiction film, practically repeating the results of the Oscars), that of Barbarian in the category dedicated to horror e Mia Goth’s double win for Pearl, in both the best actress in a horror category and in the Best Villain category, in which the actress passed a fierce competition that included among others also Paul Dano of The Batman and Elizabeth Olsen for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
