The Israeli military announced Thursday that its air defenses intercepted a missile launched from Yemen before it entered Israeli airspace.
The Israeli army spokesman wrote on the “X” platform: “A missile was launched from Yemen towards Israel, where it was successfully intercepted by air defenses using the Arrow Arrow system for intercepting long-range missiles.” He added: “The target did not violate Israeli airspace.”
Later, the Houthis’ military spokesman in Yemen said the group fired ballistic missiles at the Israeli city of Eilat.
The Israeli military announced on Thursday that an unknown drone had struck a building in the southern city of Eilat.
Emergency services said there were no casualties and that the attack caused only minor damage.
“The identity of the drone and details of the incident are under investigation,” the military said in a statement.
In recent weeks, the Houthi group, Iran’s ally in Yemen, has launched missile and drone attacks against Israel, but they have been shot down or failed to hit their targets.
The Houthis are part of a regional alliance allied with Iran and hostile to Israel and the United States, and includes the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which supports Hamas in its ongoing conflict with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
In an incident on October 27, Israel claimed that the Houthis were behind a drone attack that caused explosions in two Egyptian cities on the Red Sea coast, explaining that its aim was to hit Israel.
