This is the result of contractual provisions prohibiting frontal nudity for both actors and creative choices made by director Luca Guadagnino. Hammer expressed relief that the film’s intimate imagery was still limited to his butt.

Armie Hammer felt very comfortable on set
Armie Hammer expressed confidence in their work environment while discussing his participation in the romantic drama alongside Timothée Chalamet. Call me by your name Director Luca Guadagnino during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Hammer told Hollywood Reporter:
“Everything was so safe. We felt like we were in such good hands. We felt like we had such freedom to explore and be ourselves and mess things up and it was okay. No matter what happened, it felt like we were really protected.”
Hammer expressed ease on set, noting that between nude scenes he would forgo the robe, claiming, “It’s okay, we’ll shoot again in a second. You just feel safe.”
Hammer admitted that he had limited impulse control, explaining that he tried his best to refrain from unnecessary conversations. He emphasized that these interactions can quickly escalate, turning a trivial issue into an all-consuming distraction.
In his opinion, these distractions took up valuable mental resources that could be better used for more productive activities. He suggested that simply putting the phone down would make these distractions disappear, revealing their lack of content and importance.

Armie Hammer didn’t want to play Leonardo DiCaprio’s mistress
When he was offered the supporting role of Clyde Tolson, the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in the film. J. Edgar, Armie Hammer initially had doubts about accepting it. He expressed his initial difficulties understanding the essence of Clyde Tolson’s character.
Hammer said (via Behind the scenes):
“It didn’t make sense to me. I didn’t understand why Clyde stayed here and accepted Edgar’s harsh and cold insults. I didn’t understand the depth of their love and the complexity of their relationship.”
When the casting director, who happened to be the J. Edgar Hoover director,confidant and lifelong companion” invited him to audition for this role, Armie Hammer initially refused. However, when his agent persisted, emphasizing Clint Eastwood’s strong desire for him to try out for the role, the star Call me by your name in the end it was allowed.
Consequently, he decided to audition for the role of Tolson, and a week later he received a call from the director informing him that he had been selected for the role.
