It will be a Sunday dedicated to jazz, which many fans of this musical genre are preparing to spend tomorrow evening in the monastery of the Collegiate Church of Empoli, where the Florence Jazz Festival will make its first stop. The main characters are Pasquale Mirra and Cizmatic, thanks to the organization of the dynamic and active association Empoli Jazz. We will start at 20:00 with a solo concert by Pasquale Mirra entitled “Moderatamente Solo”. Considered one of the most exciting vibraphonists on the Italian and international scene, Mirra collaborates and has collaborated with great improvisers on the world stage, performing all over the world. Since 2008, he has also steadily collaborated with the famous American percussionist Hamid Drake and took part in writing the music for the film “To Rome with Love” by American director and actor Woody Allen. He has recorded over 40 records and conducts improvisation workshops at various conservatories and has also collaborated with Rai. Next, at 21:15, there will be room for Sismatik: soundtrack to Pier Vittorio Tondelli’s story “Autobahn” (taken from his masterpiece “Altri libertini”), with Silvia Bolognesi on double bass, voice by Roberto Magnani, Tobia Bondesan on saxophone and Giuseppe Sardina on battery.
This is a concert where acting is tested to the soundtrack of an ensemble led by the queen of modern Italian jazz, Silvia Bolognesi, fresh from a world tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Art Ensemble of Chicago and much more to the United States of America and throughout Europe. Next to him is the young but already very experienced Giuseppe Sardina on drums and Tobia Bondesan on saxophone. The idea behind this training is to create an original project that is a true orchestration of the text being read, combining two artistic styles and adding the power of their respective poetics. “We are very happy and satisfied with the partnership with the Florence Jazz Festival and our artistic offer within this prestigious festival,” said Filippo d’Urzo, artistic director of Empoli Jazz.
