“Joaquin Phoenix passed out on the set: a very intense scene”: the confession of the director Ari Aster

A movie – Beau is scared – from such intense processing that its protagonist, the Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix, he even passed out on set. He was the director Ari Aster to tell what happened after what all the sites in the sector have defined as “a well thought-out April fool’s joke”. In fact, on April 1stAlamo Drafthouse Cinema in New York the public had paid a ticket to see the screening of Aster’s previous film, Midsummar, but the large group of fans found themselves testing for the first screening for non-experts of Beau is Afraid (Beau is afraid, it will be the Italian title). After the surprise of the joke, and the more than three hours of film, Aster entertained himself in a post-screening debate with Emma Stone moderator. At that point the director shared the anecdote of an incident from the set of the film in which Phoenix passed out while Patti LuPone, who plays his mother, was filming a scene. “It was a very intense scene for Patti and the shot of her was all about her and not him. Suddenly offscreen Joaquin passed out”. Aster explained that he was a little nervous about his protagonist’s strange gimmick, but when he approached him he realized that Joaquin wasn’t really well at all. “It’s very poetic that it collapsed into someone else’s shot”, then vaguely joked Aster. Beau fears is produced by A24, an independent production company that is now climbing spaces and singularities of the historic majors so much as to have won a harvest of Oscars last March between its two flagship titles: Everything Everywhere all at once And The Whale. The official synopsis of the film is this: “A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to return home to his mother.” The film also stars Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey and Michael Gandolfini. The film will be released in US theaters on April 21, 2023. In Italy it will be distributed by I Wonder from April 27.
