John Legend’s 5-year-old son Miles has the best role models!
On September 9, Legend took Miles to a University of South Florida football game, where Legend’s nephew, Michael Brown-Stevens, plays wide receiver for the USF Bulls. The game also took place on Brown-Stevens’ birthday. USF won 38-24 over Florida A&M.
“Happy birthday @mikebrownstephens! Great win @usffootball!” Legend captioned a selfie of himself, Miles and Brown-Stevens.
In photos posted to USF’s official Instagram page, Legend put Miles on his shoulders as they walked down the field, smiling and waving to the crowd. Father and son also wore matching green and gold suits to show their support for the winning team. Check out the photos here.
Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen also shared the exciting event on her Instagram Stories.
“Happy Birthday Nephew!!! Miles looks at you like that, we love you!!” she wrote on a photo of Legend, Brown-Stevens and Miles during the game.

John Legend’s nephew, USF football player Michael Brown-Stevens, opens up about their relationship
In an interview in 2021 Pioneer Presswhen Brown-Stevens was a wide receiver for the University of Minnesota Gophers, the athlete spoke about his relationship with his EGOT-winning uncle.
“I like to claim that I was one of his first children, before he had his two younger ones,” Brown-Stevens told the publication. “He looked at me the same way. We’re just building really good relationships.”
According to the interview, Brown-Stevens and Legend communicate several times a week, and Legend even gave a speech to the Gophers team after a game in 2019.

As for Uncle Legend, he himself is an avid football fan. “He has always been a fan of the sport. He just didn’t do it—he wasn’t athletic enough to play, but I think his voice made up for it,” Brown-Stevens joked.
Legend is a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, having grown up in Ohio. However, when the Gophers played the Buckeyes in 2021, Legend stood by his nephew.
“He was rooting for me to score as many touchdowns and make as many catches and yards in this game, but he wanted the Buckeyes to win,” Brown-Stevens said.
Brown-Stevens also doesn’t treat Legend any differently due to his immense fame. “As I’ve gotten older and started making a name for myself, I know there’s a lot more out there than what I’m getting now because I’ve seen it and I’ve been around it and everything,” Brown-Stevens said. “For me, it’s really not about fame or whatever you call it.”
