We’re only in week two, but talent is in season 24 Voice is off scale.
At yesterday’s blind auditions Kaylee ShimizuThe 17-year-old karaoke queen from Ewabeech, Hawaii, was given a four-chair turn by her coaches. John Legend, Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani And Reba McEntire with her rendition of the Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers”.
As soon as she finished her last note, John Legend said, “We’re just stunned right now.”
Niall continued: “I can’t believe what just happened.”
And then the courtship began!
“Your voice was absolutely stunning,” John said. “It was so creative. It was so musical. Did you grow up singing?”
The singer from a large Filipino family said that she grew up singing karaoke. “I’ve been singing all my life,” she said.
“Can you imagine going to a karaoke bar and then hearing this performance?” – asked John.
“When I leave, it doesn’t sound like that. I’ll tell you what,” Niall added.
A recent high school graduate who wants to pursue music full-time said she enjoys soulful R&B songs.
“Sounds like a perfect fit for Team Legend,” John said, before adding: “You know you can win. Voice, right? And to do that with Team Legend would be a dream come true for me.”
Then it was Gwen’s turn to compliment the young singer.
“I’m just shocked by you,” she said. “Your vibrato is so slow and wave-like. It’s like woohoo. And it feels like you have so much control over it. I’ve never heard anything like this before. And I think it’s because you’re so young and free, being able to now have a stage to do it on has probably fueled your fire even more. I felt it. You’re like, “Finally, I can show everyone what God gave me. I have this thing.” ‘ Yes Yes. Right? I think I could be a great coach for you. I love coaching. Please, please choose me.”
Niall then joined in with his request.
“I can’t believe what I just witnessed,” he said. “It was just incredible. When we talk about technically gifted. I’ve never met anyone so gifted. By the way, the choice of song was perfect. Because sometimes songs like this can be kind of linear and you just do the complete opposite. with his help, you made it yours and simply tore it apart, putting all the parts of your voice there. I would love to work with you, just like everyone else.”
Although she had little chance of competing with John and Niall, Reba made the best argument by emphasizing her family connections and Broadway experience.
“When I was 17, I didn’t have the imagination to even think about singing like you. I’ve never heard anyone do what you did on stage today. For me it was spiritual. I also sang with my brother and sister. We’d shout to Mom and she’d be cooking dinner, and she’d say, “That’s great. Now do it again. And she’ll go back to cooking.”
Kaylee agreed that her mom did the same.
“I have years of experience touring and performing in ensembles on Broadway, so I would love to work with you. I’m glad to see you on the Reba team.”
So who did Kaley choose? She went with Team Legend.
John was delighted and further praised her incredible range: “She’s like a young Ariana Grande.”
