Springfield, Ohio native John Legend continues his vocal support for abortion rights – while saying the word! – and we just love to see it.
Legend cut an ad from Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights in which he urges voters to “stand up for our families and our freedoms” by voting for Issue 1. ballot it would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. He even managed to delve into the Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) in progress.
“My fellow Ohioans, our chance to stop the government’s abortion ban will be on the ballot in November,” Legend says in his magazine. clip. “Question 1 would allow politicians to step back from making personal decisions about abortion. When Legend refers to the “government ban on abortion,” he is referring to the six-week ban that DeWine signed into law in 2019. This law is currently stalled due to lawsuits, but the state Supreme Court recently held a hearing and could let this take effect V any time. Abortion is currently available for 22 weeks, but that could change quickly, especially if the first option fails. If question 1 were passed, it would invalidate the ban.

Cleveland.com reports that anti-abortion activists and legislators are no longer talking about the six-week ban they once supported, but are instead telling voters that abortion is legal in Ohio for 22 weeks, which is only true for now. This is nothing more than a lie by omission designed to make people think they don’t need to protect abortion in their state constitution because it’s okay. Everything’s not okayand Legend’s ad makes it clear that Issue 1 will block DeWine’s ban.
republican politician tried to interfere ballot measures such as Issue 1 in August asking voters to raise the threshold for passage from 50% to 60%. (Legend even knocked on doors in Ohio and attended the July meeting to help defeat the proposal.) This attempt failed miserably, so a simple majority is sufficient to pass Issue 1.
TO V released Tuesday from Baldwin Wallace University, found support for issue 1 on 58%. In the second episode, voters will also voice their opinions on recreational marijuana. 57% supported this measure. Only time will tell if abortion is truly more popular than weed.
