During promotion Murder in Venicecomposer Hildur Guðnadóttir also spoke about Joker 2DC movie with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
In an interview with Screenrant, he explained why work on the project was different this time:
The work was different because we already had a sound world in the first film, which we were setting up for the first time. I think the sound world is incredibly connected to the character and is an important part of the film. (…) The work was different, I didn’t need to look for anything, because everything was already in the existing world.
Instead, he explained to THR that he prefers to write the music before filming begins:
Of course, I usually work this way because I enjoy it. For Joker, I wrote most of the music first, so they already filmed with the music ready to guide the scenes. The bathroom scene, for example, is a result of Joaquin (Phoenix) dancing and getting into music.
He then explained that he didn’t feel pressured:
I don’t think too much about people’s expectations and I certainly don’t think about compensation or anything like that while I’m working. I don’t think it helps the creative process to think about how much people will love or hate something, especially today.
