Terminology in the game of football is notoriously meaningless, with seemingly random combinations of words adding up to form codes that make sense to only a few people.
Most of the time, jargon is inaudible to the public, with the exception of talkies. The microphones on the field can often hear one or both quarterbacks yelling at the line of scrimmage to change the play.
Sunday’s new classic was delivered by Josh Allen and the Bills, and as usual, it left those who heard it wondering what it meant — including its namesake, NBA legend LeBron James .

Allen and the Bills came out strong late in the second quarter to trail the Jaguars 11-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Facing second-and-3 from the Jacksonville 25-yard line with 1:35 left in the game, Allen shouted to his teammates at the last second: “LeBron James! LeBron James!”

The ensuing play barely lived up to its name, as Allen hurriedly offloaded the ball under pressure from Travon Walker, resulting in an incompletion.
However, the Bills quarterback was successful on his next two attempts, eventually putting Buffalo on the board with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs just before halftime. .
Still, Allen’s voice was so clear on NFL Network broadcasts that everyone was wondering what exactly the game was supposed to be about, even him.

We’ll see if the Bills decide to use that call again and have time for everyone to see what they actually want to do in the game.
In the meantime, think of “LeBron James” as the latest non-sequitur in a long tradition. It still has a long way to go before it enters “Omaha” territory, though.
