Jude Bellingham’s goal against Girona equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid record

Jude Bellingham scored again for Real Madrid, tying Cristiano Ronaldo’s 14-year-old record.

The 20-year-old scored the third goal in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Girona on Saturday night to help his side stay at the top of La Liga.

The England international has been in fine form since joining Borussia Dortmund

He also provided a stunning assist for Joselu, who used his inside man Luka Modric to find the forward with a beautiful outside-footed pass.

He then got his fair share of goals in the 71st minute, as the midfielder volleyed the ball into the bottom left corner from inside the penalty area.

This is his seventh goal in all competitions for Real Madrid since moving from Dortmund to the Santiago Bernabeu in a deal valued at £115 million.

His goal was also his sixth in his seventh game in La Liga, equaling Ronaldo’s record on his debut in the 2009/10 season.

Apart from Ronaldo, no other Real Madrid player has scored six times in his first season since the 21st century.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has scored just four goals in his first seven games, with Brazilian legends Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema scoring three each.

Although Bellingham is not Real Madrid’s joint top scorer in seven games, Benzema has eight goals in the 2021/22 season.

However, Ronaldo also scored 8 goals in the 2011/12 season and 15 goals in the 2014/15 season.

After beating Girona, Bellingham insisted Real Madrid’s win was a statement to their La Liga rivals.

He said: “It was an important win. “We showed our intention to La Liga – against a team that performed well, scored three goals and conceded a clean sheet. “

Commenting on his assist for Joselu, the England international claimed he drew inspiration from Croatian idol Modric.

“I’ve been watching Modric every day for three months,” Bellingham said.

“I was just trying to be creative. “It was a good goal because it took the pressure off us from the start. “
