Yes, I know it never left and will always be with us, but maybe for a while we have been living the illusion that the coronavirus is no longer a constant visitor. That’s not the case, with a surge in new crown cases this summer.
That’s what pharmacists are saying, they’re seeing increased demand for antigen tests, labs are doing PCR testing at a good rate again, and doctors are recognizing that there is indeed a new wave of COVID-19.
I find it strange that the silence of Health Minister José Manuel Miñones is unknown. Of course, the government is still in power and most of its members are on furlough, but that doesn’t mean they have no obligations to their citizens.
Right now, those hit by the coronavirus don’t know what to do. Should you stay home? Should you lock yourself in a room? From what number can you get infected? What if you are asymptomatic? Is it convenient to use the mask continuously? What if you go to a health center and they send you away without a PCR? What side effects can this strain of virus cause? Do I need a fifth dose of the vaccine?
In short, citizens know nothing about absentee government helping us deal with the coronavirus resurgence, even though they tell us that the virus is not “like” the flu. There is no doubt that every year the flu leaves its victims, but not as badly as the new coronavirus.
Most of the time, you beat the flu without leaving sequelae, but very few people can beat the new crown virus without leaving sequelae.
That said, it doesn’t hurt for those in charge of health to keep us informed of the rise in COVID-19 cases and its aftermath. But no lies or empty words.
