There were Cher, Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara, Marisa Tomei, Lisa Kudrow, Julie Andrews and many others, and they were all fabulous and gorgeous. Thus begins the story of the (moving) gathering of stars of all ages that formed on March 2, 2023 at the Avalon Hollywood & Bardot, a historic venue in Los Angeles which, with some variations on the name, sits there undisturbed by the 1927. The occasion was very dear to Americans: the 90th birthday of comedian, actress and presenter Carol Burnett, a true legend in the USA, to whom the NBC channel gave the special Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love. An event so transversal that with the ages of the guests, one could play the Superenalotto game: 76-year-old Cher, who was fabulous in oversized trousers in Prince of Wales fabric; 38Katy Perry; 50 Sofia Vergara, 58 Marisa Tomei, 59 Lisa Kudrow and then her, the Lady Whistledown voice-over narrator by Bridgerton, sole and quintessential holder of the title of Mary Poppins (not even Emily Blunt with her reboot managed to eclipse her), but also the legendary Maria of All together passionatelywhich left everyone speechless upon its arrival.
The reason? We are so used to filters on social networks that by now we risk imagining that some people can also use them live and the English squad Julie Andrews is one of them, you look at it and you think “can it be 87 years old?”. It sounds like a joke, but it is probable that the celebrated Carol Burnett, who is a great friend of Mary Poppins’ interpreter, chose that club that opened almost 100 years ago because they will have frequented it together, and who knows with which glittering outfits she wore. But in the meantime, for this occasion Julie Andrews, her short brown hair probably softened and polished by a skilful touch of keratin, chose to wear very simple straight black trousers, but accompanied by a blue jacket which recalled the style of the popular Chinese uniforms in glamorous version. On the front of her, instead of hidden buttons, she was in fact decorated with crystals tone on tone with a very refined effect. However, what left everyone dismayed was above all the freshness of her gaze which remained the same as when she sang “a little sugar is enough and the pill goes down”, the observation that, ok, makeup at a certain point in life is not she can no longer do without it, but she has managed not to be (trans)figured by the misuse of aesthetic medicine. Agelessas the journalists present defined her: “I only drink as many liquids as possible to keep my skin fresh”, she swore to those who asked her the secret of her amazing shape, “everyone do it: always bring a bottle of water and drink wherever you are”.
