Julio Urias replaced by Will Smith, Austin Barnes on Dodgers mural

Mookie Betts can still be seen celebrating on the left.

Clayton Kershaw remains at right, lifting the Commissioner’s Cup.

But the image of Julio Urias, wearing his signature glasses and Mexican flag, no longer appears at the center of the mural at Dodger Stadium commemorating the 2020 World Series championship.

The mural, located at the box-level entrance in right field, was covered earlier this month after Urias was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence outside BMO Stadium. But now the cover has been removed, revealing images of catchers Austin Barnes and Will Smith in the spot that once occupied Urias’ spot.

“Gonna take a couple days to add @will.smith and @austin.barnes5 to the 2020 Dodgers World Series mural,” mural artist Jonas Never wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of his updated work. “It’s nice to be able to give the catchers some love.”

Never painted numerous murals throughout Los Angeles, including one of Dodgers hitter Joe Kelly’s infamous pouty faces on the wall of Floyd’s 99 barbershop in Silver Lake, less than two miles from Dodger Stadium.

“There’s also another mural in the works at the stadium (not over the old walls… a new one),” Never wrote on Instagram last week.

Urias’ time with the Dodgers appears to be over. A second mural of him at Dodger Stadium was painted over and his locker was cleaned out. He will become a free agent at the end of the season.

In the new version of the Never’s Dodger Stadium mural, Smith points and screams while running around the bases while Barnes appears in catcher’s gear. Never and the Dodgers did not respond to The Times’ request for comment for this story.

Never’s Instagram feed also features individual photos of Dodgers players, including Urias, standing in front of the original version of the mural.

“I can’t get over how surreal it is to have a seat at Dodger Stadium!” Never wrote in 2021. “And here are some more favorite photos (of some of my favorite players).”
