Keyon Anthony hints at following in Carmelo Anthony’s footsteps in Syracuse, gets LeBron James’ nod

After his official visit to Syracuse on Friday, Keyon Anthony joked about following in the footsteps of his father, Carmelo Anthony. Anthony Sr. played for the Orange for one year in the 2002-03 season, winning the program’s only NCAA championship. LeBron James also apparently approved of Kiyan’s potential decision by sharing his post on Instagram.

The 16-year-old guard was a four-star recruit and currently ranked No. 36 in the 2025 class. He hasn’t committed to Syracuse yet, but his Instagram posts certainly hinted that he might play for the Orange, and he actually looked good in an orange uniform.

“Hold the torch high? 🍊 #officialvisit,” Kiyan wrote.

Carmelo Anthony doesn’t put pressure on his son to choose his alma mater. Kiyan Anthony told On3 he will take time to consider his future and continue to visit other schools before making a decision.

“There’s no pressure to go there,” Kiyan said. “I knew that no matter where I went, I was going to go there and play my game. But my dad always told me, ‘Don’t feel like you have to go there just because I went to Syracuse. Take a hard look at these colleges and choose your Where I want to be. So that’s what I’m really looking forward to doing.”

In addition to Syracuse, Keyon Anthony also had offers from other programs including Florida State, George Mason, Manhattan, Memphis, Providence and Seton Hall. Anthony is a junior at Long Island Lutheran High School who transferred from Christ the King in February.

LeBron James apparently approves of Keyon Anthony’s tease of Syracuse

LeBron James might be the coolest uncle ever, as the ‘King’ shared a post about Keyon Anthony on his Instagram Story. James and Carmelo Anthony have known each other since high school and have developed an unparalleled bond.

Late last year, when Kiyan Anthony’s Christ The King took on Bronny James and Bryce James’s Sierra Canyon, two N.B.A. Legends were in attendance. Twenty years after LeBron and Carmelo faced off in 2002, their legacies have come full circle.

While Keyon continues to visit schools, LeBron’s eldest son, Bronny, has committed to play for the USC Trojans. Browne is currently recovering after undergoing surgery to repair a congenital heart defect that caused him to go into cardiac arrest a few months ago.

Bryce, on the other hand, recently joked about joining the Ohio State Buckeyes. He received formal offers from Ohio State and Duquesne. He could also be linked to USC.
