Kuwait.. Sentence to imprison the former Defense Minister on charges of “money from the Army Fund”

On Sunday, Kuwait’s Court of Cassation sentenced former Defense Minister Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah to seven years in prison on charges of “misuse of Military Fund funds,” according to Reuters.

The court refrained from handing down punishment to former Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and forced him to repay sums of money over charges related to the misuse of Army Fund funds.

In prison…the former Kuwaiti Interior Minister had a “heart attack”

Kuwaiti newspapers reported that former Interior Minister Khaled Al-Jarrah, accused in a corruption case, has been transferred from his prison to a medical center to receive treatment after suffering a health crisis.

In December 2021, Kuwaiti newspapers claimed that Khaled Al-Jarrah, who also previously held the position of Interior Minister and was accused in a corruption case, was transferred from his prison to a medical center to receive treatment after suffering a health crisis.

According to Al-Rai and Al-Qabas newspapers, Al-Jarrah, one of the defendants in the Army Fund case, was transferred from the Central Prison to the Sabah Al-Ahmad Heart Center in Amiri Hospital.

Security sources told Al-Qabas that he had a heart attack which required his transfer to hospital, stressing that he felt very unwell, so the prison doctor was summoned, who decided to transfer him to the center to complete treatment.

The roots of the Army Fund issue date back to 2019, when then-Kuwaiti Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah revealed the seizure of approximately $800 million from a fund designated to assist the army , an issue that led to the resignation of the government then led by Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak.

The issue has gained great momentum in Kuwait and continues to receive widespread public attention.

Jaber Al-Mubarak, who has served as Prime Minister since 2011, later apologized for not accepting his reappointment as Prime Minister after the country’s late emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, told him assigned the task of reshaping the government, noting that there were media campaigns against him.

In October 2021, a Kuwaiti court ordered the release of Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, after he was included in the case and held in pre-trial detention, but the court refused to release the other defendants in the case, including Al- Jarrah, and ordered his continued detention.
