Lakers star LeBron James told reporters on Monday that he is dedicating this season to his son Bronny, who is recovering from cardiac arrest after suffering cardiac arrest during a workout at the University of Southern California.
“Bronny is doing great,” James said, adding that his oldest son has begun his recovery with the goal of returning to the field with the Trojans.
James, who is entering his 21st season as a professional, said during media day that after talking with his family, he felt encouraged to return to the court this summer to follow his youngest son Bryce on the AAU tour and send Brown Nee heads to the University of Southern California.
“I feel like I have a lot more to give,” James said.
Like teammate Anthony Davis, he also believes the team is off to a good start after an offseason that included acquiring key role players after rebuilding at the February trade deadline.
“I’m very optimistic about how we can pick up where we left off,” James said, adding, “There shouldn’t be too much teaching.”
Davis, who missed 26 games last season due to injury, said he is ready to play and the team is ready to start training camp.
Davis added that he wants to be a scorer at all three levels again.
“My body feels good,” Davis said, adding that his goal is to play 82 games. “I feel good about my game.”
James organized a minicamp for the team in San Diego last week, and every player was reportedly a participant.
Davis believes the Lakers have a “head start” heading into training camp as the team brings back a core of the club that performed well after the February trade deadline.
“As long as you have continuity, it will be a lot easier to start the season,” he said.
