Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has long been a strong supporter of Ohio State athletics. The academy is one of the most successful sports programs in the country, regularly producing big stars in many sports, and one of the best young stars in football comes from the program in Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.

The Texans selected Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he played a huge role in turning the team around. Houston won just three games last season, but has surpassed that mark midway through the year and Stroud looks like a lock for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Lakers were in Houston recently on the road against the Rockets, and LeBron had the opportunity to take a moment to talk with Stroud. After the game, James talked about how special he thinks Stroud is, noting that he saw what he was capable of early on and now the city of Houston is witnessing that, via Spectrum Sports Network:

“I think he already has his own style. I think you’re just seeing that now. We’ve been seeing what he brings to the football field for a long time in Northeast Ohio, but more importantly What he brings to the community. We’ve seen it and now you guys finally get a chance to see what a special kid he is. I think the sky is the limit for him and they’ve accomplished great things here.”

In just eight games, Stroud passed for 2,270 yards and 14 touchdowns with just one interception. He’s on pace to have the best rookie season of any quarterback in NFL history and continues to turn heads every week. But that’s no surprise to LeBron, as the Lakers superstar has watched him dominate the world for years.

Unfortunately, Stroud didn’t get to see James’ big performance that night, as the Lakers were eliminated by the Rockets. But the fact that LeBron has such unwavering trust in Stroud speaks volumes about what he does on and off the court.
