EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — LeBron James said his son Bronny is recovering from cardiac arrest and hopes to play for USC this season.
James provided an update on his 18-year-old son on Monday when the Los Angeles Lakers held their annual media day ahead of training camp.
“Bronny did really well,” James said. “He has begun the rehab process to be able to return to the field this season with his teammates at USC. He is on the mend with successful surgery. This summer has been an absolute whirlwind for our family , filled with a lot of emotion. But the best thing we have is each other.”
Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest while working out at the Galen Center in late July. LeBron James praised USC’s training staff and coaches for their quick response and saving Bronny’s life after he was hit.
Bronny is taking classes at USC and spending time with teammates while recuperating. LeBlanc said the health scare frightened the family but ultimately made them stronger.
“We support each other,” James said. “We gave Bronny strength throughout the process. “We’re excited to see where he is today and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for him. “
