LeBron James sends special message to Aja Wilson

Game 1 of the WNBA Finals kicks off Sunday in Las Vegas when the Aces take on the New York Liberty. The Aces defeated the Dallas Wings to advance to the semifinals, while the Liberty defeated the Connecticut Sun. Among the crowd may be LeBron James and several of his Los Angeles Lakers teammates, who will be in Las Vegas for a preseason game the next day.

Before the game, James expressed support for his “sister” A’ja Wilson, whom she backed to win the series. “I hope she brings it home,” James said. According to ESPN.

LeBron James gifted Wilson a pair of his custom Nike LeBron 21 sneakers this week to show his support for her. He also congratulated her on multiple occasions, including in August when she scored 53 points in a game that tied the WNBA record.

Wilson and the Aces become the defending WNBA champions after winning their first championship in franchise history in 2022. The power forward remains one of the top players in the league after winning his second straight Defensive Player of the Year award.

A’ja Wilson and the Aces will take on WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart’s Liberty. This matchup will likely be personal for Wilson, who lost the MVP to Stewart.

If the Aces win the Finals, they will become the first team since the Los Angeles Sparks in the early 2000s to win back-to-back WNBA titles. The Aces currently win the series by five points over the Liberty.
