Leonardo DiCaprio and Ariana Grande: Hollywood newsmakers of the week

In the world of Hollywood, where entertainment often takes center stage, several high-profile figures found themselves in the spotlight this week for reasons ranging from environmental activism to global solidarity to box office expectations.
First, we have famous actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio, who used his large social media following to raise awareness about climate change and shared an image of a galaxy frog discovered in the Western Ghats of India. Then all eyes turned to Kylie Jenner for her post during the height of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Taylor Swift is also making headlines as she prepares for a $120 million opening weekend at the box office on Friday.

In a significant research project, a national post-doctoral fellow from the Department of Zoology, University of Calicut, Kerala, contributed to a study on the amphibian population of the Western Ghats. During this research, he took a photograph of a unique species of frog, which in turn attracted the attention of Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio. The Oscar winner and climate change advocate summarized the amphibian research and shared: “The assessment assessed the extinction risk of more than 8,000 amphibian species from around the world, including 2,286 species assessed for the first time. More than 1,000 experts from around the world provided their data and experience, which showed that two out of every five amphibians are at risk of extinction.”
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift filled stadiums on her concert tour, made voting cool again by urging her fans to do their civic duty, and included teenage girls in professional football games to watch her cheer from the stands.
In her next act, Swift is looking to boost another sector of the economy: Film box office revenues are still struggling to recover from the pandemic and Hollywood strikes.
When “Taylor Swift: The Era Tour” hits theaters Oct. 13, it will be a high-profile test of whether “alternative content” like a concert film can draw audiences to theaters, creating more consistency for a business that ebbs and flows according to with theatrical release calendar.
According to box office analysts and studio executives, Swift’s film could bring in $120 million in its opening weekend, boosting ticket sales for AMC Theatres, Cineworld and other chains.
Kylie Jenner
Israeli actors Gal Gadot and Lior Raz on Sunday condemned the attack on Israel by Hamas militants and called on the world to show solidarity with the country. A surprise attack by Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip at dawn on Saturday killed at least 22 Israelis, even as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared “war” and said his country would face an “unprecedented price” from its enemy.
While several Hollywood stars came together to condemn the attack, Kylie Jenner made headlines by posting a pro-Israel photo on her stories, but later deleted it to give way to social media trolling.
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez officially split in February 2023. In a fairly amicable split, they managed to agree on the details before heading to the courthouse. Ariana, according to TMZ, will “write a check” to Dalton, giving him a one-time payment of $1,250,000, which is tax-free. In addition, Dalton will receive half of the net proceeds from the sale of his Los Angeles home. Notably, Ariana also agreed to cover up to $25,000 in Dalton’s attorney fees. This divorce demonstrates how a prenuptial agreement can streamline the process and keep the financial consequences relatively modest.
Golden Globe

The expanded voting body includes voters from countries around the world, including Guatemala, Costa Rica, Cameroon and more.
