The mahanayak of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, celebrated his 81st birthday on October 11 and the country is celebrating it like a festival. “The Last of the Megastars” has been serving showbiz for over five decades and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.
“I’m not going to bring the shutters down for a few more years,” says Big B.
While Amitabh Bachchan has received global acclaim for his incredible performances across multiple industries and languages, he also made a big mark in Hollywood with the film The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann. In the 2013 film, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire starred alongside Big B as Jewish gangster Meyer Wolfsheim.

It was 2013 when Leo told NDTV: “He couldn’t be a more gentle, wonderful person to work with. And amazingly talented. the mouth is full of so much more and so much presence. And then you see the shot and you see that he is the perfect gentleman, just a joy to be around and a wonderful employee.”

The veteran director, who recently achieved success with his film Oppenheimer, presented Big B with the 2021 FIAF Award. 3. Tobey Maguire
Toby, during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, told NDTV: “It was an honor to work with him. He’s so wonderful. He’s so thoughtful. And his presence, you can feel it. “down to earth and so humble. I really enjoyed working with him; he’s basically a very talented actor. So it was a lot of fun.”
4. Baz Luhrmann
In his words of appreciation to Big B, Baz told NDTV in 2022: “In my opinion, Amitabh Bachchan is not only the Elvis of India but also the Marlon Brando of India. Tom Hanks is easily America’s Amitabh Bachchan, and I mean that. …I think about him and Tom, they are very similar. Amitabh not only brought his acting to the set, but also his energy, inspiration and wisdom. I saw this on the set of The Great Gatsby.
5. Martin Scorsese
The Killers of the Flower Moon director shared his two cents on Bachchan in 2021 and said, “Amitabh Bachchan’s advocacy for preserving India’s film heritage has been exceptional. With a career spanning over five decades, he is a celebrated actor who has lent significant weight to his reputation for preserving films in India and across the subcontinent.”
