The mahanayak of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, celebrated his 81st birthday on October 11 and the country is celebrating it like a festival. “The Last of the Megastars” has been serving showbiz for over five decades and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.

While Amitabh Bachchan has received global acclaim for his incredible performances across multiple industries and languages, he also made a big mark in Hollywood with the film The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann. In the 2013 film, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire starred alongside Big B as Jewish gangster Meyer Wolfsheim.

Toby, during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, told NDTV: “It was an honor to work with him. He’s so wonderful. He’s so thoughtful. And his presence, you can feel it. “down to earth and so humble. I really enjoyed working with him; he’s basically a very talented actor. So it was a lot of fun.”

4. Baz Luhrmann

In his words of appreciation to Big B, Baz told NDTV in 2022: “In my opinion, Amitabh Bachchan is not only the Elvis of India but also the Marlon Brando of India. Tom Hanks is easily America’s Amitabh Bachchan, and I mean that. …I think about him and Tom, they are very similar. Amitabh not only brought his acting to the set, but also his energy, inspiration and wisdom. I saw this on the set of The Great Gatsby.
