After years of separation, a new video from Fast X is creating hype for the long-awaited confrontation between Han and Shaw. Deckard Shaw played by Jason Statham was memorably introduced in the post-credits scene of Fast & Furious 6 as the man behind Han’s seemingly accidental death in Tokyo Drift, having killed Sung Kang’s character in retaliation for his brother. Shaw would later have some redemption in both The Fate of the Furious and Hobbs & Shaw, while Kang was revealed to have survived in F9: The Fast Saga and faked his death with the help of Kurt Russell in the role of Mr. Nobody.
With just over a month to go until its release, Universal Pictures has released a new behind-the-scenes video from Fast X.
The featurette, as seen above, offers more insight into some of the upcoming sequel’s high-stakes action, and director Louis Leterrier is also promising a return to the franchise’s hands-on roots. The Fast X video also hypes the tense reunion between Statham’s Shaw and Kang’s Han.
As the franchise turned Statham’s Furious 7 villain Shaw into a hero thanks to Statham’s Hobbs & Shaw spinoff and Dwayne Johnson, those who first fell in love with Han in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift they quickly launched a fan campaign demanding justice for his character. Justin Lin, who created Han for Better Luck Tomorrow before bringing him to the franchise, promised in his directorial comeback with F9: The Fast Saga that the film would begin to pave the way for Han to get justice for his death. without ceremony.
The 2021 sequel explained that Han had faked his death with the help of Russell’s Mr. Nobody, who trusted him after previously watching Gal Gadot’s Gisele and would reunite with Dom’s team to stop an agent secret rogue and a cyberterrorist who used a weapons program. During the mid-credits scene of F9: The Fast Saga, Han was seen appearing at Shaw’s door, with the former villain surprised to find him alive.
While confirmation of his survival and backstory has led some to feel that the character has returned triumphant, others continue to think Han deserves justice in the final two films. The Fast X trailer and video above appear to indicate that the two will team up to battle unidentified foes, though it’s not yet clear if that will remain permanent in the film.
