Lionel Messi may be on the verge of winning his eighth Ballon d’Or, but there’s still one award missing from his trophy cabinet, the one won by Cristiano Ronaldo and a few others: the Golden Foot.
The 36-year-old, fresh off a World Cup win with Argentina, continues to adorn his career with individual trophies. The Golden Football Award has been won by many football elites, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Mohamed Salah, Luka Modric and Robert Lewandowski. However, Messi’s name remains a glaring omission. Last year, the winner was Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski. He graciously acknowledged its importance, saying (via The Sports Bible):
