(CNN Spanish) – Police in Argentina’s Santa Fe province are investigating Antonela Rocuzzo, the wife of 2022 World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi, a police source told CNN My cousin was attacked by an armed force.
According to the same source, the incident took place on Tuesday morning in the city of Rosario, when several armed men intercepted the vehicle in which the victim was traveling, shot at his car and stole 8 million Argentine pesos, That equates to an official value of about $21,200, he added. An employee traveling in the car told the Clarín newspaper that they were going from the supermarket (owned by the Roccuzzo family) to the bank to deposit money.
The incident is not the first crime the footballer’s family has faced in the city. In March 2023, the same business was shot for threatening players. In recent years, Rosario has been characterized by high levels of violence and the proliferation of criminal gangs linked to drug trafficking.
The province’s Ministry of Security is investigating the incidents, but they have assured there will be no official report on what happened.
