Luis Suarez is set to join Inter Miami alongside Lionel Messi after it was confirmed he will leave Gremio.

The 36-year-old joined Gremio from Nacional last year and scored 26 goals in 51 appearances for the Brazilian side.

Suarez has guided Gremio to three trophies in his two years at the club, but his contract expires later this month.

The former Liverpool striker left Europe for South America in 2021 after two seasons at Atletico Madrid.

After six years at Barcelona, he moved to Diego Simeone’s side, where he became best friends with Lionel Messi.

The Argentine, of course, joined Inter Miami earlier this year, with the likes of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba already joining him in Florida.

But now that Suarez is available on a free transfer and will not take up a designated player spot, he will join the Argentine in David Beckham’s side.

Gremio’s coach admitted on Saturday that Suarez’s time at the club was over.

“Will we miss him? Of course, there is no doubt that he is deeply loved by everyone.” Gaucho said.

“I am delighted to be working with a great professional who is one of the best players in the world and the fourth highest scoring player in the world. This void will continue into next year as it is difficult to find someone as talented and It is not easy for people with abilities.

“When you find someone else, you can’t bring him in financially. Unfortunately, as I said before, it will be difficult for him to stay. Everyone wants it, but only he can reverse the decision.

“Unfortunately, he will leave and there will be a vacuum in Gremio’s attack. Then the board and the president will have to try and find another striker.

“It’s a great pleasure not only for me but for the whole club. A man who always gives of himself, an exemplary professional.”
