Man who extorted cash from two other men after consensual sex was jailed and caned

Lien also told the man that their actions had been recorded on CCTV cameras.

“The second victim was shocked and tried to reason with the defendant because the sexual contact was consensual,” Deputy Prosecutor David Menon said.

“The defendant responded by demanding $5,000 from the second victim in exchange for not reporting the crime to police. The second victim did not have $5,000.”

Lian then asked the man to go to a clothing store and buy him $3,000 worth of products.

He eventually settled for $100 in cash because the man didn’t have much money and even showed Lian his bank account balance.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Menon said the second victim, who is not Singaporean, transferred the money to Lien because he felt threatened and feared his job would be affected if the police reported him.

The DPP did not reveal who informed authorities about Lien, but on October 26, 2022, a team of police officers went to his home and arrested him. He resisted and bit a police officer on the right leg, causing it to bleed.

The officer received a tetanus shot and was screened for infectious diseases, including hepatitis and human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV.

The test came back negative and he took two days off sick.

The serial case is the second reported by The Straits Times this week and involves a criminal convicted of making false accusations of sex crimes.

In an unrelated case on Wednesday, Siti Junaidah Azahar, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of providing false information to a public servant.

In 2021, she had consensual sex with two co-workers and then claimed they raped her. She will be sentenced in November.
