Antonia Maria Teresa was the youngest of the Mirabal Reyes sisters. Tired and angry at the atrocities of Trujillo’s tyranny, she did not hesitate to join a group of women who met in January 1959 at the residence of Guido D’Alessandro (nephew of her sister Minerva), It laid the foundation for what would become the Juneteenth rebellion, which overthrew the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo on May 30, 1961.
She is the daughter of Mercedes Reyes Camilo and Enrique Mirabal Fernandez, and the youngest of the four Mirabal sisters.
An excellent student, she received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1954. In the same year she entered the Department of Mathematics of the University of Santo Domingo, where she held the title of Surveyor (Agricultural Topography).
She officially married engineer Leandro Guzmán on February 14, 1958, in her mother’s new home on the south bank of the Salcedo-Tenares highway in the Conuco jurisdiction 4 kilometers.
