Referring to scientists who have warned that a tipping point is approaching when the forest will no longer be able to recover, Ruffalo said that this is “the last stage for the Earth.”
“More than 10 species,” he explains, “could be wiped out, creating a domino effect that would affect our planet’s climate, our water, our food supply, kill people. Even if you live on the other side of the globe, these are all your problems. The actor, activist and co-founder of The Solutions Project, an organization that promotes 100% renewable energy consumption among other things, to reverse this trend, it is necessary to protect 80% of the Amazon and manage the remaining 20% sustainably, according to the actor, activist and co-founder.
“The good news,” he says, “is that there are real Avengers out there who show us how to do it. Since we are playing a game of consumption and destruction, the natives have always conserved nearly all of the biodiversity on the planet. This is no joke, 80% of what’s left of biodiversity is on indigenous lands.” However, he adds that the indigenous peoples are being attacked from many directions and that they will soon have an important battle on top of the Amazon. The leaders of all its member countries will meet in Brazil and decide on the future of the forest. “Our saviors of the Amazon,” he explains, “will fight to guarantee us all the protection we need. It’s time for reinforcements from all sides. We need to realize how high the stakes are.”
The actor is among the main characters, along with Emma Stone, from Yorgos Lanthimos’ Povere Creations, at the competition in Venice, but due to the strike of the actors’ union, he will not be able to intervene.
