A meeting between filmmaker Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan about a feature film project sparked heated discussion among studio and streaming executives.
The untitled project will be the next film from Coogler, the filmmaker behind the scenes black panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Coogler wrote the script and will direct.Jordan frequently collaborates with the filmmaker, including on Leopard movies as well creed and Fruitvale Stationwill be a star.
This is the first spec script Coogler has produced through his production company, Proximity Media. His only other spec is his 2013 breakout, Fruitvale Station. This new project is a completely in-house developed project. It is based on an original idea by Coogler, who will serve as lead producer. Producing alongside Coogler are Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian
The operation of the project is very secretive and little is known about it. In fact, executives and buyers were forced to make pilgrimages to the Beverly Hills offices of WME, which represents Coogler and Jordan, in order to review the script and learn the details. The meetings took place last week.
Kugler and his team are very organized. The second step will take place this week, with interested parties meeting with the filmmaker to hear him lay out his vision. Production commitments will be requested.
The project has been described as “genre”-featured. However, it is a broad term that encompasses horror and its subsets, as well as thrillers, science fiction, and even fantasy. There is a period element to the story, two sources said. Coogler’s camp had no comment.
Coogler is one of the most sought-after filmmakers of his generation.I reinvented Lodge Franchise in 2015 creedwhich has now spanned three films, and his Marvel Studios debut black panther became a cultural touchstone, generating $1.34 billion in global box office revenue and earning a Best Picture nomination, a rarity in the comic book genre.
Jordan is also represented by M88 and directs and acts in his own right. Creed III and will deal with part four.
