Owner and creative director of “Michael Kors Holdings Limited”, which later became Capri Holdings, the designer creates clothes, watches, jewelery and footwear. Kors is the son of a former American model, who inspired him to become passionate about the world of fashion.

Michael Kors: the beginnings
Michael Kors, born Karl Anderson, Jr., was born on August 9, 1959 in New York. As we said earlier, Kors is introduced to the world of fashion by his motherformer model Joan Krystosek Kors. At just 5 years old, little Michael advises his mother to remove the bows from the wedding dress for her second wedding. This is how her interest in fashion was born. She graduated in 1977. Later, Kors studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, starting to design clothes at the age of 19. He then began working as a salesman in the French boutique “Lothar’s”. He was later promoted to the store’s visual display manager.
In 1981 he launched his first line of women’s clothing with the “Michael Kors” brand, inspired byhigh-class women’s sportswear. This first collection is sold at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue department stores. In 1984 he held his first catwalk show, with the famous supermodel Iman, parading with one of her dresses.
His collections are chic, elegant but at the same time casual and sporty. A winning mix. In fact, these are garments that can be worn on important occasions as well as in the daily routine, allowing the woman to feel more self-confident.
The success of Michael Kors
In 1997, Michael starts working as a designer in the famous fashion house “Céline” (in 1999 he will become its artistic director), and will remain with it until 2004, the year in which he dedicates himself exclusively to his brand “Michael Kors”. During this period he created his first collection dedicated to men’s fashion. In the same year he was summoned as judge of the program “Project Runway” (a reality show dedicated to the world of fashion and design), which increases its notoriety all over the world. Kors thus becomes one of the most loved stylists by stars and famous peoplethe likes of Jennifer Lopez and Michelle Obama.
In 2013, Kors joined the “Time 100”, the annual ranking of the most influential people in the world, selected by Time magazine. Subsequently, in 2015 he became “Global Ambassador against Hunger” thanks to the United Nations World Food Programme.
Meanwhile, the Kors brand continues to grow and focuses more on women’s clothing, footwear and accessories, thus becoming one of the most loved brands in the world. Nowadays it has about 770 shopssome of which are located in large cities, such as Tokyo, Paris, London, Milan and Cannes.
In July 2017, Michael Kors Holdings Ltd acquires the shoe company Jimmy Choo Ltd for 896 million pounds ($1.2 billion), and later also Gianni Versace for about 2.1 billion dollars. In the meantime, the same holding changed its name, becoming Capri Holdingslike the name of the Campania island synonymous with elegance and luxury.

In 2011 she married her partner Lance LePere, on Southampton beach, shortly after same-sex marriage became legal in New York state.
Among the celebrities to have worn Michael Kors designer clothes, we can mention the stars Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, Catherine Zeta Jones and Joan Allen, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Obama. In 2004, when Kors is called to participate in the “Project Runway” program, this proves a little doubtful of his success. Indeed, according to him, showing fashion on television is not a good idea but, against all his predictions, the television show becomes a great success. Kors continued to be a judge on the program until 2012.
