“Michelle Huddy: Beyond Fashion” is part of the program of additional events taking place as part of the PhotoVogue festival.
The first major solo exhibition of French-Algerian photographer Michel Haddy in Milan will take place in two parts at the 29 Arts in Progress gallery: the first from from October 19 to December 22, 2023and the second – from January 16 to March 16, 2024. In both cases, the most representative images from the artist’s more than forty-year career will be shown. Liza Minnelli, David Bowie, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, as well as Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Yasmine Le Bon and Veruschka are just some of the images captured by Huddy in his photographs. Through his images of these famous figures, Huddy was able to capture the zeitgeist of the times, always maintaining an intimate and personal touch in which we can see both the true essence of the subjects he depicts, as well as his history and his desire to become a photographer, nurtured throughout his turbulent childhood.
Huddy’s work will include black-and-white studio and street photography that merges humor and sensuality. The second phase of the exhibition, from January 16 to March 16, 2024, will feature nudes and unpublished photographs, as well as images of vibrant colors and American scenarios of the nineties, associated with brands such as Versace, Chanel, Armani and Yves Saint. -Laurent.
Haddi has a gift for seeing the nature of the objects before his lens, telling their stories with both irony and wisdom, honoring the meaning of his name: “he who sees” in the Semitic language.
“Well, I can say that I was lucky. It feels like coming home, as it really all started for me in Italy, where I learned all my trades and honed my skills alongside Vogue himself, the late Franca Sozzani and Marc Ascoli, among many others.” – says Huddy.
“From where I am now to where I might have been born in Saint-Germain, I have seen hell on earth and experienced many things that have helped shape my character and style of photography.” He adds.
“I’m comfortable being “outside the box”: you see things differently than others. As Bert Stern told me when I was a young photographer, “Kid, keep going, I’m glad to see your mind is set to provoke, so go.” for this”. As my gallerists at 29 Arts In Progress say, my view of fashion is a true mix of everything and crosses all genders, but with the main focus always on human relationships. This is something I didn’t think I had growing up, so I embraced it all in my work. Inventing a new world, with a new outlook on life, that is mine, and that’s all I want.”
