#Morella | Cofepris and SSM warn against use of “poppers”
– Consuming it increases the risk of poisoning, heart disease, and lung damage.
Morelia, Michoacan, September 14, 2023. – The Federal Council for the Protection of Health Risks (Cofepris), through the Michoacán State Health Department (SSM), reminds people of the use of products called “poppers”, which contain amyl nitrogen nitrite, isobutyl, isopropyl or butyl compounds such as radicals, which are considered toxic to humans.
These products are marketed as air fresheners, liquid fragrances, deodorants, cosmetics, solvents or nail polish removers because they evaporate when used.
In recent decades, its use has been primarily found among teenagers due to its stimulating and sexually stimulating effects.
One of the main associated risks is related to the respiratory system, as inhaling these substances can irritate the respiratory tract, leading to breathing difficulties, chronic cough and bronchitis. It can also cause pneumonia, heart disease, cancer and even nerve damage.
Therefore, people are advised not to use these products, not to buy them, and to avoid combining them with other illegal substances or drugs.
