The mother of an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with leukemia is calling on the Valdivia community to unite as her son desperately needs donated platelets for treatment.
This is a family from Coyhaique, due to the complexity of this disease, The child was referred to Valdivia Base HospitalWhere he is currently hospitalized.
The child’s mother, Bárbara Conejera, said: “We have been here for about three weeks. My son Alonso started suffering from severe bronchitis, he is being treated but will not recover’. Then, he said, petechiae appeared on the skin, and he also developed problems with his mouth.
“We took him to the dentist and he consulted with colleagues. They asked for an examination but they were so frustrated that he was referred to the hospital emergency department in Kohaik the next day. Due to the seriousness of the situation, they transferred us to Valdivia by air ambulance. He spent a week in ICU and then back in ICU,” Alonso’s mother said.
Now, in order to continue his treatment, he needs platelets, for which he called the Valdivia community, saying “Hope you can support us and donate platelets for my son. We are from Koyaik, I ask you for help, it is urgent.”
