There are just a few days left until the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.. The show will air live tonight from the Prudential Center in Newark.
This year’s VMAs are all about hip-hop.. Besides Diddy’s participation, Nicki Minaj will be both host and performerCardi B and Megan Thee Stallion will perform their new single Bongo. Lil Wayne and Metro Boomin are also part of the lineup, with the latter joined by Future, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Swae Lee and NAV.
The show will also dedicate space to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.. LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Darryl “DMC” Daniels and Doug E. Fresh are among the artists who will appear in the show’s finale.
MTV Video Music Awards, not just hip-pop
Hip-hop fans aren’t the only audience targeted at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Fans of Latin American music will be able to attend performances Anitta, Karol J. AND Plum by weightand also Shakira.

Eight of the artists featured in this year’s main show came from outside the United States, showing how the music scene has become more global in recent years. This is a much more international lineup than the first VMAs in 1984, which featured five American artists (Madonna, Huey Lewis and the News, Tina Turner, ZZ Top and Ray Parker Jr.) and two English artists (Rod Stewart and David Bowie , the latter featuring a pre-recorded performance from London).
Saweetie will host a 90-minute pre-show featuring Nessa, Dometi Pongo and Kevan Kenny.

Shakira and Sean “Diddy” Combs to receive top honors: respectively Video Avangard Award And Global Icon Award. Both artists will also perform at the show for the first time in over 15 years. The Colombian artist will be the first South American artist to receive the award, which has always been given to women in recent years. We remember Rihanna (2016), Pink (2017), Jennifer Lopez (2018), Missy Elliott (2019) and Nicki Minaj (2022). The last person to receive this award was Kanye West in 2015.
However, Diddy became the third recipient of the Global Icon Award, following Foo Fighters (2021) and Red Hot Chili Peppers (2022).
Taylor Swift Leads 2023 VMA Nominations With 11 Nominationscounting three received in social categories. She is followed by SZA in total nominations.
