National team technical assistant Eric Rodriguez dies

Shocking news was confirmed on Tuesday that national team coach Eric Rodríguez, who served as technical assistant to Claudio Vivas during the European friendly matches of the Costa Rica national team, has passed away.

The Federal Federation confirmed in a press release that Rodriguez died of pneumonia while in the Netherlands.

“Mr Rodrigues developed health problems while on his way from Newcastle to Zagreb last Saturday, which is why during the stopover in Amsterdam it was decided that he would remain in the city for a medical assessment and remain in the hospital at all times. “However, on Sunday he was admitted to the city’s OLVG Hospital. On the same day, the federation contacted his wife to travel to the Netherlands, where she successfully arrived last Monday. However, in the early hours of Tuesday, his health deteriorated and, unfortunately, Eric Rodriguez passed away at 3:45 pm (local time) with his wife by his side.”

The federation is reportedly covering the costs of the situation and shipping the remains to Costa Rica.

Rodriguez has also coached the U-17 and U-20 teams, and in national football, he has coached teams such as Santos and Liberia Municipals.
