Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has done things that greats like Michael Jordan, Russell Westbrook and Oscar Roberston have been unable to do.
Luka Doncic makes NBA history
this dallas mavericks talisman Luka Doncic Saturday night did something that has never been done in the 77-year history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) led the Dallas Mavericks to a 142-124 victory over the underdogs detroit pistons.
On a night that saw his record plummet, the Slovenia international finished with a 39-10-10 record, the first player since Michael Jordan to do so in an NBA regular season. Surprisingly, Luka went 26-5-5 in the first half.
But that was a minor feat compared to what No. 77 accomplished later that night. As the final buzzer sounded, Luka Doncic scored a 30-point triple-double for the sixth consecutive game, something no one in the NBA has accomplished.
Not only did he break Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robertson’s records, but the Mavericks superstar broke a second record. The first player to record his fifth consecutive 35-point triple-double. Doncic is in excellent form this season, averaging 34.7 points, 9 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game in the 2024 season, nearly a triple-double.
The feat once again proves why the Slovenian deserves to be in the conversation for winning this year’s Most Valuable Player award. But to do that, the Dallas Mavericks will need to move up significantly in the regular season standings. With this victory, the Mavericks improved their win count by 8 games and their winning percentage exceeded .500, ranking eighth.
The Mavericks will be counting on Luka to lead them into the playoffs this season, and if they surge to the fifth seed, the 24-year-old guard will certainly be the favorite to win this year’s MVP trophy.
