Nick Kyrgios has joked that Piers Morgan needs to “drink one less pint of beer”. The Australian tennis star made the comments after watching old clips of the presenter playing tennis with Serena Williams.
Kyrgios gave Morgan his much-anticipated interview on TalkTV on Friday night. The pair often trade barbs on social media, with Morgan criticizing Kyrgios’ behavior on and off the field.
But the two ended the hour-long exchange on good terms. Morgan even claimed they would become good friends after the interview.
Kyrgios usually doesn’t hide his opinions and was clearly happy to laugh at the host. Morgan took issue with the 28-year-old’s earlier comments, saying he had no idea what professional tennis players go through.
Morgan pulled out an old clip of his match against Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion. He earned a point against the Americans and wanted Kyrgios to realize it.
Morgan said: “I’ll tell you what my problem is, it’s your previous inference, I don’t understand the mentality of an elite tennis player. I want to show you a clip of me playing against Serena Williams. in New York.
“I didn’t want to play that clip, but you forced me to play it by mocking me for not being an elite tennis player. That was me beating the greatest female tennis player in history.
“I’m not taking credit, obviously I’m a man, I’m stronger, I’m faster, I’m more skilled. But a win is a win.”
Kyrgios was impressed with Morgan’s skills and suggested a match between the two once he recovered. He replied: “Yes, you look good, your skills are much better than I thought, but you looked a little better than Pierce at the time. When I get healthy, we take it to the court, How about we solve this problem once and for all?” There? “
Morgan admitted he may need to adjust his diet and change his diet before returning to competition, referencing Kyrgios’ famous sushi meal at his 2022 Wimbledon press conference. He replied, “Well, you know what I’d do. The truth is, I do need a little more sushi in my diet.”
Morgan was clearly enjoying the light-hearted moment, with Kyrgios quipping: “You’re going to have to drink less beer.”
